This fine slingshot has been carved from light wood and with a Y-shaped frame. African slingshots and catapults should be better documented compared to other African art forms. Baule slingshots are commonly found with their designs carved upside down concerning how the slingshots are held when used used. Slingshots/catapults are amongst an array of miniature art objects in West Africa. They are used in the hunting of smaller prey to supplement the diet. Slingshots are believed to hold talismanic powers and bring luck in hunting. Their lower portion is usually fitted with rubber from inner tire tubes. However, these attachments often need to catch up over time.
